My role is to assist the Managing Director of the Edinburgh office in running the business efficiently, managing a team of technical staff carrying out technical project work and promoting the business to existing and potential Clients. I regularly carry out SERS certifications (around 40 in the past year), coaching and mentoring of staff and take a very hands on role on project work, particularly at the concept and feasibility stages. I work both in Civil and Structural fields but have primary responsibility for Civil / infrastructure design work within the office. I am also an NHBC registered timber frame certifier.
I achieved the level of FICE recently (2012), of which I am very proud. I sit on the ICE Edinburgh Area Branch committee and assist in organising our annual programme of technical seminars and also am official pre-19 co-ordinator for our outreach schools programme.
I have 29 years experience in the construction industry, 3 years of which have been as a contractor, the remainder as a designer. I have extensive experience of infrastructure design, SUDS, retaining walls, highways, telecommunication structures low rise structural design and contract administration and procurement . This experience has given me a strong commercial awareness which I utilise to our clients benefit.
I joined WRD in 2009 and was appointed Director in 2011.
Aside from enjoying my role as Engineer my other interests include maintaining a very old land rover, walking our 2 Basset Hounds, looking after our 4 chickens and doing a bit of windsurfing
