Will Rudd Davidson provided Structural Engineering services on the exciting new Sky Academy Skills Studios building which extends to a footprint of around 500 square meters. It is located to the rear of the existing Sky3 building in Livingston which remained operational throughout the construction.

This dynamic new visitors’ centre consists of a reception area, a welcome room, a cinema style immersion room, a live walkway and several studio rooms with an external plant compound. The focus of the building is to provide an engaging, fun and educational space for students to experience different aspects of news media as part of the school curriculum.

The single storey building structure is formed by a fully braced hot rolled steel portal frame construction with non-load bearing internal partitions and external composite steel cladding on cladding rails. The foundation is piled due to the present ground conditions with suspended concrete slab floor.
